DIRECT AND INDIRECT SPEECH
A. Direct Speech
Direct speech (kalimat tidak langsung) adalah perkataan langsung yang diucapkan pembicara. Kalimat langsung terdiridari 2, yaitu :
• Reporting Verb : kata kerja yang melaporkan
• Reported Verb : kata kata yang dilaporkan
Ada beberapa hal yang harus diperhatikan pada bentuk direct speech ini yaitu :
a. Dalam kalimat langsung pada umumnya antara reporting verb dan repoted verb dipisahkan oleh tanda koma ( , )
b. Reporting verb dalam kalimat langsung ditulis dalam tanda kutip
c. Reporting verb dapat juga disebut reporting sentence (kalimat pelapor), sedangkan reported word dapat disebut reported sentence (kalimat yang dilaporkan)
d. Letak reporting verb tidak harus berada diawal kalimat, tetapi dapat juga berada diakhir kalimat.
Contoh :
1. D : Donni says, “ I am ill”
I : Donni says that he is ill
2. D : She will say, “ I am writing a letter”
I : She will say that she is writing a letter
3. D : Toni has said to me, “ I will go with you”
I : Toni has said to me that she will go with you
4. D : He says, “ I shall be eating at six tonight”
I : He says that he will be eating at six tonight
5. D : Billy will say, “ I was happy in that day”
I : Billy will say that he has happy in that day
6. D : Rina has said, “ I have worked hard in this year”
I : Rina has said that she worked hard in this year
7. D : She said, “ I am sing a song”
I : She said that she was sing a song
8. D : She say, “ I am dance”
I : She said that she was dance
9. D : I said to her, “ You must help him”
I : I said to her that she has to help him
10. D : Risman said to Miming, “ I am sleeping now”
I : Risman said to Miming that he was sleeping than
B. Indirect Speech
Indirect speech (kalimat tidak langsung) adalah kalimat yang diucapkan untuk menyampaikan pernyataan seseorang kepada orang lain.
Ada beberapa hal yang harus diperhatikan dalam kalimat tidak langsung :
a. Dalam kalimat tidak langsung (indirect speech) antara reporting verb dan reported verb dihubungkan oleh kata penghubung (conjunction)
b. Dalam kalimat tidak langsung tanda kutip tidak dipergunakan
Berdasarkan jenis kalimat yang dilaporkan (reported wordnya), maka direct and indirect speech dibagi menjadi 3 bagian, yaitu :
1. Command ( postive and negative) : perintah dan permohonan
2. Statement : pernyataan
3. Question (if/wheter) pertanyaan
a) Perintah Positif
1. The doctor orderd topatient, “ Please, put off your cloth, I want to check your temperature ! ”
The doctor orderd to patient to put off his cloth, he wanted to ceck his temperature
2. Linda told me, “ Bring your camera, please.!”
Linda told to me to bring my camera
3. Bella told Shinta, “Get me something, drink please.!”
Bella told Shinta to get her something to drink
4. Mike told Clara, “Please go to the hospital.!”
Mike told Clara to go to the hospital
5. The doctor said to Lin, “Stay in bed for a few days”
The doctor said to Lin to stay in bed for a few days
6. My mother said to me, “Stay at home”
My mother said to me to stay at home
7. My teacher said to us, “ Please, open your book”
My teacher said to us to open our book
8. She order to me, “Please, open your book now”
She order to me to open my book now
9. She order to me, “Please, open your book now”

a) Perintah Negatif
1. The beggar said to me, “Don’t touch me, I don’t eat whatever you give”
The beggar said to me not to touch him, he din’t eat whatever I give
2. Mirna told me, “Don’t be late, or you’ll miss the class”
Mirna told me not to be late, or I would miss the class
3. Cony asked to me, “Don’t come to may house on Saturday”
Cony asked to me not to come to her house on Saturday
4. My old sister said to me, “Don’t forget to bring my bag”
My old sister said to me not to forget to bring her bag
5. My mother told to me, “Don’t forget to do your homework”
My mother told me not to forget to do my homework
6. Lingling told to us, “Don’t give money to Lunghuy”
Lingling told to us not to give money to Lunghuy
7. My father asked to us,”Don’t watch the science fiction film”
My father asked to us not to watch the science fiction film
8. The leader told to us, “Don’t give up”
The leader told us not to give up
9. Rudy commended to me,” Don’t throw the rubbish into the pavement now”
Rudy commende to me not to throw the rubbish into the pavement
c) Statement
1. Fadly says to me, “ I am a good leader”
Fadly says to me that he is a good leader now
2. Toni said to me, “ I am a good leader now”
Fadly says to me that he is a good leader then
3. They said to Putri, “ You always take out pen”
They said to Putri that she always take out pen
4. Iksan said to ayu, “ I will love you forever’
Iksan said to Ayu that he would love Ayu forever
5. My mother says to me, “You can not go to Medan tomorrow”
My mother says to me that I can’t go to Medan tomorrow
6. Susi said to Rudi, “I have stolev a cat”
Susi said to Rudi that she had stolev a cat
7. The girl said to me, “You can help me if you are my best friend”
The girl said to me that I could help her if I were her best friend
8. Juliya said, “I need the money for the dictionary”
Juliya said that she needed the money for the dictionary
9. Bruce said, “ I will help you”
Bruce said that he would help me
